Happy beginning of April guys!
How are you all? How has spring been treating you so far? Are you ready to discover our next book? April will be bringing us a Classic…
Our next Book Club read will be The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I wish I had I highly intellectual & academic reasoning behind it, however I unfortunately don’t.
As I love being honest with you guys, I am actually going to tell you the true story behind my choice. A few weeks ago I was watching an episode of Masterchef Italy, when Joe Bastianich stated that The Catcher in the Rye was one of the books that mostly affected his perspective on life. I still don’t know how that simple phrase managed to catch my attention. However it surely ignited my curiosity, and I surprisingly found myself ordering a copy of it online just a few minutes later. Long story short: congratulations and thank you to Joe Bastianich and Masterchef for having rekindled my interest in Classics. Inspiration really comes from the most unexpected places…
The Catcher in the Rye is a coming of age novel narrated in first person by its 16-year-old protagonist Holden Caulfield. The young teenage boy recounts the days following his expulsion from Pencey Prep School in Pennsylvania. After fighting with his roommate, Holden goes underground in New York City for three days. There, J.D. Salinger has him interact with teachers, prostitutes, nuns, an old girlfriend and his sister, in order to illustrate Holden’s dramatic struggle against death and growing up.
